Great Joy Giveaway

Great News - Today I'm giving away Great Joy!
Figuratively and literally. Thank you, Mrs. Parker, for organizing this special gift for our TBA readers. As you may remember from Monday's Thought, Word and Deed post, Great Joy by Kate DiCamillo is a story about Frances (I just LOVE that name!) and her sensitivity for a homeless man and his monkey during a winter storm. A simple invitation to her Christmas pageant gives them both great joy. Click here for a kindness lesson and EGGS-periment to enrich this heartwarming tale.

As a mind-your-manners-at-the-table incentive between now and winter break, the little monkey from the story (aptly named JOY) will be up for grabs in the cafeteria each day; the class with the best behavior at lunch gets to take JOY with them to their classroom! Here's a picture of the cafeteria bulletin board designed to inspire and intrigue them:

If you'd like the visually joyful reminder to Live Life With Great JOY! for your classroom, click here to download a copy.
It was designed especially for my readers
by my friend and our school's webmaster Jane Ann.

But wait, there's more to the Great Joy giveaway. One lucky reader will win a hardcover copy of this holiday treasure.

Here's how:

Just leave me a comment about what brings you great joy, along with your name and email address so I can contact you if your name is drawn.

That's all there is to it. We'll be selecting the winner the old-fashioned way, by putting the name of everyone who enters into a Santa Hat and letting my youngest son pull out the winning card. This contest will close at midnight on Wednesday, December 7th so that I can get the book to its new owner before the holiday rush. I just can't wait to read all of your reflections; good luck!

NOTE:  This giveaway is now closed.  Read all about the winner here.

  1. My greatest joy is my son. Besides making me laugh (and cry) daily, he makes me want to be a better person.

  5. Little everyday things bring me joy

Tickling my son and hearing his laughter always fills my heart with love.
Watching my husband enjoy his hobby of photography brings me joy.
And, greeting my students each day at the doorway brings me a sense of knowing this is my purpose in life.

    Thank you for hosting today.

  8. Oh JOY! It's a JOYful Giveaway! Gotta love that!

Let's see, I get JOY from...
    1) Watching the grin spread on the face of a child who just "got it" and now understands a concept
    2) "Real" hugs... tight, squeezy hugs that come from the heart
    3) The choir at my church... goosebumps too!
    4) Visits from former students who come back to the classroom years after graduation and walk in and say, "Everything looks just the same... only smaller!"
    5) Comments on my blog (I know, I should be beyond that, but it still makes me happy!) AND
    6) Visiting the Corner early in the morning and finding that Barbara has already posted!

  10. I already have this wonderful book but I wanted to respond--if my name would be drawn, draw someone else's--that would bring me great joy knowing someone else will have this beautiful story to share.

  12. Spending time with my family gives me great joy, especially this holiday season. I am living at home and do not know where I will be next year. That leaves holidays kind of up in the air. So I am going to take this holiday to spend as much time with them as possible.

  14. I too already have this heartwarming story and look forward to seeing who else might win your fun drawing! I love the story, but the pictures are my favorite part. I was given my copy last year by my beloved niece. What brings me great joy is having family and friends who know me so well they can give me, or recommend to me, the kinds of stories they know I'll love! Lisa in Williamsburg, VA
