Crossing The Line

People in the media often get critical feedback and learn to a develop a thick skin, but a Wisconsin reporter decided that this time a reader had gone too far when his criticism crossed the line and questioned her personal responsibility as a public figure and role model. Thank you, Jennifer, for your positive message to our future leaders and for the important caution to the parents and guardians from whom they are
watching and learning
every day!

  1. We were just talking about this yesterday! Good for her!
Bullies are, indeed, everywhere. Thanks for being one who helps kids learn how to cope... and who works to help figure out how to help bullies change their ways...

    1. Ditto to you. Even when your class challenges you, you ALWAYS find a way to sprinkle in JOY and unveil that silver lining!

  2. I just posted - a short one - about this too. I guess it is not enough that she is a devoted mother of 3 with a great career and is well spoken, intelligent AND educated...gosh I wonder what the bully looks like?!?!

    Thanks for sharing this :)

    1. I just LOVED her message, even though it had to come as the result of hurtful, shaming words. Sometimes people just don't stop and think about the power of their words, either to lift up or, in this case, to tear down! I say "rock on, Jennifer!"

Thanks for stopping by the Corner, sweet Shawna.

  3. I am going to use this video for my 5th grade bullying lesson. Since we live in Wisconsin, this video connects with the kids on that level. I think she is giving a great message and it also gives an outlet to talk about cyberbullying based on some of the comments that are under the youtube video and the fact that the man sent an email and replied via the internet.

Thanks for putting it out there again. What a courageous woman she is!

    Happy Thursday Barbara!

  4. I seriously wanted to jump up and down and throw my fist in the air after watching that video!! I had seen the headline yesterday on my computer but never took the time to click on it. Thank you so much for blogging about it. That lady took a hurtful situation and turned it into a super important message for the whole world! What class! :)

  6. Ahh! I love this. Her response could not have been more perfect. The sad thing is, some people would watch this and still not get it. I suppose that is why we work so hard to do the jobs we do! Hopefully we can catch students before some of the learned bullying behavior that is reinforced at home is too ingrained to leave behind. Some people are so calloused. Thanks for this post. What a great way to start the week!

  7. I'm so glad she stuck up for herself! Sad to say some people are rude and cruel. Lots of adults need character education.
