One Little Word - Gratitude

We enJOYed a week in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin over break;
talk about your winter wonderland. So much to be grateful for, including a holiday hiatus at my childhood home wrapped in a blanket of snow and love.

While away, I read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp, after which
my one little word is almost a no-brainer:

Border by The 3 AM Teacher - thanks, Michelle!

And though it would seem easy enough, to be thankful and make gratitude a habit, this Canadian author, farmer's wife, and mother of six, wants her readers to also be grateful when things aren't going our way, when life starts to challenge or pull us in directions that we don't want to go, and I gotta tell ya that that's not going to be easy. at. all!

But just as last year's one little word - peace - helped calm me in ways that I didn't think possible, I know that naming gratitude as my focal point will be a great way to keep it in the forefront and help me remember in all things to give thanks.

I'm not sure I'll necessarily make a list as the author suggests, but I like the idea of writing my gratitudes, of naming the things I appreciate, and, if I can intentionally do that three times a day for a year, I, too, will have a thousand things on my heart for which I am habitually grateful. So today I'm thankful for you, my readers, and for your encouragement, your support, and your kind comments.

What are you grateful for today?

  1. love your word and wish I could steal it :)

    my word is Hope. I hope for good health for everyone, hope that this world will get rid of unnecessary violence, hope that young kids will have adults as good role models, and I hope that I continue in my present job and have a positive influence on my little ones.

    1. Oh, Tammy, it was teens and twenties mostly, but the night I took the moon picture, it was six degrees out there. We stayed bundled up and drank a lot of hot cocoa. Happy new year, Tammy!

  5. Love the pictures! We enjoyed a snow day from that storm. Have to love Wisconsin in the winter. If you don't like the weather one day, just wait, the next day will bring something new and interesting. I live by Lake Michigan in Sheboygan, we had rain, two miles inland had 8 inches of the white stuff from that storm.

    My word is blessings! As I finish my chemo, I look for all the blessings God has given me each day to help me stay focused on the positive in my life.

    1. Oh kb, I think we've talked about your proximity to my family farm? We're only about an hour north of Sheboygan. I'm glad the storm brought a white blanket your way, too ... and I admire your strength and courage through adverse health challenges. Blessings, indeed. I feel like expressing gratitude would really challenge me in your situation. Thank you for stopping by and for the reminder to celebrate the positive things in life!
