My TREE-mendous Volunteer

What a wonderful week it was!

Today, just a quick post to share the beautiful handiwork of my social-worker-in-training, Anna. In thirty years, I've never had a student teacher or an intern, and just a handful of volunteers, really. But this fall I've be blessed with Anna. She'll be spending forty hours observing and helping our school family as part of her program and I couldn't be more excited. Just look at this incredible Family Tree board on which we'll be posting pictures. We got the idea from a T-shirt that staff created from an inservice idea; click {here} to read more about that.

Notice the intricate letters at the roots in a font I'll call Anna.
Seriously, she did those free hand!

I requested little faces on the leaves to represent the students
and she decided on googly-eyed foliage.

Anna's artistry amazes me.

Additionally, she observed peace-class lessons on respect at each grade level and helped me assemble 26 toiletry kits in our surplus pencil boxes for Mr. Whitlock's homeless ministry.

How did I get so lucky?

  3. Facebook Feedback from a Kindergarten teacher in our school family: I have been impressed with Anna's creativity for years. I watched in amazement this week as she CUT those letters on the roots by hand without even drawing them first. She's very fortunate and will learn a lot spending time with you. I'm very happy for her!

  4. She's a very lucky gal to hang out with you. When she needs a job, send her to Idaho. :)

  5. OhMyGoodness! Lucky You! Lucky Anna! If I knew you took "interns," I would have applied long ago. How fun to have a "buddy" with whom you can share your job. (And it's about time someone else figured out how wonderful that would be for someone new to the field!)

Oodles of love from this side of the continent...
