Not just today, of course, but every day.
The love.
The gratitude.
The appreciation.
The connection.
The compassion.
The hope.
The grace.
The joy.
And if it feels like it's not coming to you, go to it. Find ways to feel it. Find people to feel it with
and causes to feel it for. Choose it, and see what develops. Plant it, and watch what grows.
Nourish it, and be blessed by the bounty.
Then give that beautiful bounty
wings to fly
and permission to soar.

Title: Mel Fell

Publisher: Greenwillow Books
Birth date: February 2, 2021
Suitable for: ages 4-8
Themes: courage, confidence, growth
Brief synopsis: The day has come for Mel to fly. Is she scared? Sure. But she feels ready, so off she goes. How will it go? Each page is an invitation to fall with her and see what's up.
Opening page: One day, when Mama was away, Mel decided it was time to learn to fly. She had been in the nest long enough.
"Aren't you scared? asked her sister, Pim.
"Yes," said Mel. "But I won't let that stop me."

Why I like this book: I love the orientation (turn the book to keep reading) and the onomatopoeia, the illustrations and the creativity with every page turn. But mostly, I love how Mel admits to being afraid, yet she heeds the call to get growing because it was stronger than her scared.
Faith above fear. If only I could do that better.
So I see a really strong follow-up discussion:
What is something you were scared to do?
Did you do it anyway?
Did courage give you confidence?
Or did confidence give you courage?
What was that experience like before, during, and afterward?
If you haven't done it yet, what's holding you back?
Who or what might help you take the leap?
What does Mel's experience model for her siblings?
