Motivational Maxims

This is Jacob's last week at FHS and today is the last Tuesday of his
high school career. While working on his graduation book,
we asked him to pick a few of his favorite quotes,
those words of wisdom that motivate and guide him.

These are our 18-year-old son's picks:

How would you use these in your classrooms? I think they'd make such interesting discussions for your morning meetings or sensitivity circles.
Or thought-provoking writing prompts.
What do you think that the author of this quote means?
Give an example of this from a story you've read.
How might these words apply to your own life?

Look out world; here he comes.
I have a feeling he'll do just fine!

  1. As always, I love your posts, Barbara. What a special guy to have chosen those quotes!!! I often remind myself, when I'm doing something I don't care to do of the excellence being a habit...at times it's been my mantra.

    Smiles - Lisa
    Growing Firsties

    1. Thank you, Lisa. I always feel a little closer to my WI home when you stop by!

  2. With quotes like those and a mom like you he will definitely be just fine! Congratulations Barbara, you did good! :)
    The Picture Book Teacher's Edition

    1. Thank you, Shawna! That makes my day coming from someone I admire so much.

  3. These are some of my absolute favourite quotes and I have quite a few posted in my classroom. Every day, one of our grade 7 or 8 students reads an inspirational quote over the morning announcements. Such a great start to our day.

Congratulations, Jacob! I have absolutely no doubt you will do far more than just fine. ;)

    Runde's Room

    1. Thank you, Jen, for stopping by the Corner and for your kind words for Jacob. I agree that student-read inspirational quotes must be an amazing way to jumpstart your day!

  4. Congratulations to Jacob! These quotes are amazing. I love starting our weekly meetings with a book or a quote and these quotes are perfect for teaching so many things. Thank you for sharing them!

    1. I love it when you stop by; I can just hear the fun in your voice! I'd actually had not even heard all of these before so it was cool for me as a mom to see what Jacob selected.

  5. "Raise up a child in the way he shall go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."---Good job to you and your husband! You have laid the foundation and I can see he will build on it! Congrats to Jacob!

  6. Jacob is on his way...and what a great legacy of his mother and father!! Looking forward to hearing all about Jacob's future endeavors!

I really enjoy hearing from my readers; thanks for sharing your reflections with us!
