What you focus on, you get more of.
Maybe that's it.
Maybe that's why I'm noticing
so much more kindness lately.
Ordinary things, like when I was reading third-grade thank-you notes to Dennis Lee for coming to our school and found one in the stack addressed to me, thanking me for opening the Counselor Cafe this year.
And extraordinary things, like when I commented that I love these shirts and would like to have one, a cyber-friend whom I'm never met in person said, "what size?" How kind is that?
Turns out, her school has connected with the Josh Stevens Foundation. Do you know Joshua's story? Above all, he was kind.
His kindness campaign didn't end when his earthly journey did.
I wrote a little ditty that I'm planning to teach
when we focus on kindness in peace class next week.
We'll use the hand-jive motions ... or the melody to the chorus of that late 70's song called Cruel To Be Kind.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the comment above!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I'm a big fan of a kindness campaign, and the kindness patrol sounds like a great way to SPREAD kindness. Last year, I had a couple of boys wear vests and armed them with notes to give to kids they noticed doing the right thing. My dream was that it would go school wide. I wanted to name it Peace patrol...but I like the Kindness Patrol idea better, because we know that "acts of kindness follow you!"
By the way, I'd love to use your song in my classroom. How does it go?
Peace Patrol, I like that too! And yes, Rhythm leaves the BEST feedback!
ReplyDeleteThe Cruel to be Kind song was popular in the late 70s...click here to hear the song and get the melody of the chorus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIuBkn59MGg
