PPBF: Mucky Truck

It's Friday of Memorial Day weekend, a time for new beginnings as the class of 2021 graduates and summertime starts. Our Joshua graduated from Texas A&M with his ChemE degree earlier this month!

So much to celebrate; let the job hunt begin.

And now, today's PPBF pick.

Why I like this book: This book makes me want to find a group of preK or K kiddos because I can hear their roars of laughter and delight as I imagine a read aloud of this sing-songy script with them! In fact, I might just have to call my local library and offer that when I finish telling you all about it.

As you can see from the first page, the truck gets stuck. Yep. It's a rhyming book. And that's perfect, because we all know that our youngest learners love a good rhyme! As you might predict, one by one his friends come to help and, you guessed it, one by one his friends all end up stuck in the muck.

Once they finally do have an idea that's going to get them the help they need, one by one they all get freed. But where is Mucky Truck? I'm not going to mess it up for you, but you can probably guess that he wasn't quite done playing in the mud ... yet.

I can see SO many spinoff discussions from this sweet and silly story.

What do they like to do with mud?
Have they ever gotten stuck in the mud?
Have they ever made a mud pie? (here's your chance for an object lesson)
Have they ever gotten stuck on a problem?
Who helped them get unstuck?

Get out some toy trucks and set up a race course or maze;
give your littles a problem to solve with their truck.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to call the Library
and set up that volunteer read-aloud session.

And don't forget, Mr. Quigley's Keys also comes out on June 1st.

That's this upcoming Tuesday ... squeeeeeeaaaaaal!
