Why I like this book: I don't typically review board books, but when I was shopping online at Target, this book's title intrigued me, the cover art hooked me, and the gorgeous illustrations inside reeled me in.
The adorable animals at work helping one another make my heart happy and I cannot wait to read it with Leah. Children are never too young to learn that kindness matters, and this gem will help plant those seeds in the hearts of our youngest readers. Use it as a springboard to take your toddler outside into the garden and teach them not only about growing plants, but also about cultivating kindness.
Plant the idea for a kindness journal using a Composition Book or online portfolio using Google Docs; invite your kindness crusaders to record (in pictures or words) kindnesses given, received, and/or witnessed. What a fun reflection tool it will be for them to go back and chart their growth.
You can also use the journal/portfolio idea for goal-setting; writing intentions down enhances the potential for achievement. So go ahead and ask your students what they plan to do to scatter seeds of kindness today. Encourage them to design a t-shirt logo, bumper sticker, or poster as a constant reminder to make kindness a way of life.
Then compare and contrast with these two board books:
