PPBF: Window Puppies

This picture makes me happy, dear reader; have you ever
seen a smilier pup than our Baker boy with a Pup Cup?
And could he possibly extend his tongue any farther
to reach every bit of that whipped-cream goodness?

This shot is a window into his world,
which leads us into today's PPBF.

Compare and contrast with Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton
and let your littles make Window Puppies into a song.
{Bonus if you strum along on the ukulele!}

Why I like this book: First, I think it's cool because the author is a young mom who lives right here in Texas, where she grew up on a horse farm. I feel a connection, like she's a kindred spirit. Next, our youngest readers absolutely love animals; one of the first things that they can do language-wise is make animal noises. Oh how I love hearing their answers to, "What does the kitten say?" Language acquisition intrigues me.

When our first two children were toddlers, we'd walk through our neighborhood looking for dogs and cats that they could oooooo and aaaaah over, so there's another warm connection. Third, how creatively unique an idea, to match the dogs in the windows to the style of the house they live in, right? So we get to learn a bit of architecture, too.

And not to spoil it, but there is also a cat in a window. Yay.
Just look at how purrfectly Kitten fits on our couch.

After reading, ask your littles to draw a house that matches
either their pet or a beloved pet in a book or on tv.
Bluey, for example, or Biscuit, Clifford, Snoopy.

What kinds of houses would match these furry friends?

Maybe it's just a color, like Bluey in a blue house,
or a size match, like Clifford in a huge house.

Not drawing just yet? Invite them to bring a picture of a dog
they love and a house that complements that dog's essence.

Put the creations all together to create a cute companion book.

This simply sweet rhyming treasure is sure to be a "read it again" title in your board-book collection that your child(ren) will quickly memorize. Check it out, then head to Susanna Hill's blog for more PPBF picks.
