PPBF: The Flower Thief

Happy May Day! Today I'm grateful to have been invited to write a guest post for my friend, the incredible Dr. Jean. Click {here} to go there.
Do you know the backstory of the May Day bouquet?

Online I found this: People would go around town hanging or leaving baskets filled with flowers anonymously at friends and neighbors doors as a way of welcoming them into warmer weather. They say if a friend catches you before you can disappear, you have to give them a kiss. (I didn't know about the kiss part!)

It's a fun tradition, especially with what we now know
about the therapeutic benefits of flowers!

Why I like this book: I think this series of books is hilarious, and I enjoy a good laugh when I'm reading aloud. I just discovered this third story this past week at Monday's storytime at ChickFilA.
After three springtime read-alouds, the children were invited outside to decorate a small pot with stickers, then plant a flower to take home.
Such a fun extension activity for our little flower.

In addition to being funny, it's educational as Bird talks Squirrel through what his flower will need, like water, sunshine, rain.

In the back pages, a two-page spread with details about flowers.

Check out The Flower Thief (previously published
as Don't Touch That Flower), then head on over to Susanna Hill's
blog for today's other PPBF recommended titles.

April showers bring May flowers, so why not
treat yourself or a friend to a fragrant treat this week?
