Happy Wednesday! Today I'm grateful to celebrate character with you
and my PLN friends on Twitter as we connect to chat this evening.
Our first question has to do with coloring; it's kind of opened because
it could be about coloring and its mindfulness benefits.
It could be about colorful cultural celebrations.
Or it could be about race and ethnicity and
being color brave in our identity work.
I expect some really interesting answers to that kickoff question.
Our second question has to do with empowering voice and choice.
Our third question asks our participants to get specific and
choose the two core values that they hold most dear, then explain
how those two values help them be a strong leader.
Our fourth question will encourage participants to get vulnerable
and share a current challenge in their character building.
Conflicts are going to arise; it's how we respond
that shines a light on our true character.
Then, since I think we'll have five minutes left, I've crafted a bonus question, to get our leaders thinking about equity.
I expect our chat our chat to be thought-provoking and deeply reflective;
we'd love it if you could join us.
As a part of our special week-long celebration, I invited my friends down the road in Dickinson ISD to give us a sneak peek into the AmAzInG work that they're doing in SEL and Wellness. Here's that clip;
let Amy C. or me know if you want more information.
I am so honored, grateful, and proud to be a part of their 💞 work this year
as a coach for their incredible and passionate counseling team.
Final thought for today: We know that in the end, it isn't going to be a rah rah assembly, or a special week set aside, a poster contest, or even an epic lesson that's going to build character in our young people. It's not even the best curriculum, program or practice that's going to be the answer. These things don't hurt, but we have to make sure not to rely on them
as stand-alones in our character building.
It's the synergy of all of these things and more as we weave SEL into the very fabric of our culture and climate, but most importantly, it's our example as we help our students, staff, and stakeholders set healthy habits and create strong connections founded on agreed-upon virtues
that guide our decisions as we all work to become value-able citizens.
Thank you, Character Educator, for walking the talk
to help us build a better future, this week and always.
